Servings: 12 stacks
Prep Time: 15 minutes
Cook Time: 15-20 minutes
Ingredients
- 1 sheet (about 8 oz / 225g) puff pastry, thawed
- 6-8 slices deli ham (Black Forest or honey ham work well)
- 1 cup shredded cheese (Gruyère, Swiss, or sharp cheddar)
- 2 tbsp Dijon mustard (or whole-grain mustard for texture)
- 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
- 1 tbsp fresh parsley or chives, finely chopped (optional, for garnish)
- Black pepper, to taste
Instructions
1. Prep the Puff Pastry
- Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Roll out the puff pastry sheet slightly (if needed) and cut into 12 equal squares (about 2.5-3 inches each).
- Place half of the squares on the baking sheet—these will be the bases.
2. Assemble the Stacks
- Spread a thin layer of mustard on each pastry base.
- Fold a slice of ham to fit the pastry square and place on top.
- Sprinkle shredded cheese over the ham.
- Top with the remaining pastry squares and press the edges lightly to seal.
3. Bake to Golden Perfection
- Brush the tops with beaten egg for a shiny, golden finish.
- Optionally, sprinkle with black pepper or extra cheese.
- Bake for 15-20 minutes, until puffed and golden brown.
4. Serve & Enjoy
- Let cool slightly, then garnish with chopped parsley or chives.
- Serve warm as an appetizer, brunch item, or party snack!
